Cash Game Rules

16 Nov 2011

Dates: Friday Nights, starting when 5 players bust out of the tournament and wish to play, or after the tournament concludes.

Stakes: The blinds are $0.05/0.10.  Minimum buy-in is $5, Maximum buy-in is $10.  Players may also add on to a stack so long as their stack is not larger than $10 after the add-on. There are no limits to how many times a player can buy-in.

Leaving the game: Players may elect to leave the game at any time, however, it is recommended that you give a 20-30 minute “warning” before you do so.  Leaving immediately after winning a big pot is considered poor etiquette.

Cash Game Specific Rules:

  • Straddles: The player first to act preflop (known as “under the gun”) may elect to place a “straddle” – a blind bet double the size of the big blind, in front of him before cards are dealt.  In exchange for the blind bet, the straddler has the option to act last before the flop.  In /r/AustinPoker, the only legal straddle is made UTG.  Double, triple, etc. straddling is allowed, but only by the player who would otherwise start the action preflop.  Straddles are fixed at 2x the big blind or the last straddle.  It should be noted that straddling is considered a move with negative expected value, and that just about any poker book will tell you not to do so.
  • Cash Out All, or Cash Out None: Players may elect to leave the game at any time, but they are not allowed to buy back in once they have left.  They may also not take chips off of the table and put them in their pocket in order to decrease their risk, this is called “going south,” and is considered a form of cheating.
